Strange Utterances is a participatory installation and ritual performance that invites audiences to sit into what is and is no longer. Drawing on the research of Ephemeral Archives, Strange Utterances creates an ongoing environment of clay sculptures and moving bodies, a practice of contemplation and touch grows through observation and engagement with moist, wet clay and its varied temporalities. The installation will be made up of clay sculptures and traces from the performances, which the audience will be invited to interact with, leaving their own impact which will evolve the performance in an ongoing loop.
What happens when we invite those things that “are not there” (in a corporeal way) to inhabit and work alongside us? What is the power of these invitations themselves? How can new possibilities be considered and materialized through invitation? Strange Utterances is a moment to sit with and expand into the questions, the uncertainties, maybe even an indeterminacies, together.
This project was made possible by a grant for one-off art projects from the Zuid district.
